Terms & Conditions

  1. The application is open to all Danish citizens or residents who were born on or after January 1st, 1996, and/or who are full-time students in music or arts at MGK or Bachelor level at the time of application. For group applications, all members of the group must meet the elegibility requirements.

  2. UNM consists of Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. An applicant who is eligible to apply to the open call from more than one country may only send in one application, or else both applications will be disqualified.

  3. Applicants can participate in a total of five UNM festivals, regardless of which country they participate with. Therefore a Danish citizen residing in Iceland can not participate five times for Denmark and another five times for Iceland.

  4. For the Danish Call for Works, applicants may only participate in the festival every other year. Applicants who will participate in the UNM festival 2026 cannot apply in this year’s Call for Works or Artist-in-Residence.

  5. All works must be anonymous. Please ensure that names, dedications and names of musicians/performers (i.e. personal information) are removed from all scores, videos/media, etc. Don’t forget copyright text and metadata. Various solutions to “hide” names in PDFs usually work poorly. As it is important that the name does not accidentally appear, we recommend editing the score, removing the name, and saving again as a PDF.

  6. Applicants will submit personal information separate from the work itself, which will only be used by UNM boards for administrative purposes. The information will be available to the board for up to two years and can be removed at any time by request of the applicant after the results have been announced.

  7. The works are selected by a jury for each specific country. In Denmark three jury members are chosen by vote at the General assembly.

  8. UNM Denmark has the power to enforce a gender quota. If the selection of artists made by the jury exceeds a total ration of 2:1 between males and non-cis-males, the festival organizers will select replacements based on the ranking of the jury.

  9. Each applicant can send in a maximum of three submissions – call for works and call for artist-in-residence included. I.e., you may apply with up to three works, or two works and one submission for the residency. In case an applicant is selected for both the residency and with their submitted work, they may choose if they want to participate in the residency or with their selected work.

  10. A total of 5 works will be selected in the call for works. In addition to this, a list of runner-ups will be selected. If the performance of a selected work is canceled, a replacement work will be selected. Attendance is expected from the artists selected to participate in the festival throughout the festival week. The performance of a selected work may be cancelled if the selected artist is unable to attend the festival.

  11. UNM Iceland is committed to producing a performance or exhibition of all selected works. However, as the festival is volunteer-run, resources and production capacities are limited. If a selected work exceeds the festival’s technical, logistical, or financial capabilities, the composer may be asked to adapt the work so it can be presented within the festival’s available resources. For the 2027 festival, we can accommodate works for a sinfonietta.

  12. UNM Iceland will not cover performance fees for composer-performers at the 2027 festival, consistent with the policy that other selected composers are not paid to participate in the festival.

  13. By applying to this call you are agreeing to follow our Code of Conduct in any UNM related activity.

  14. The application deadline is July 5th 2026 at 23:59 GMT.
